The Golubac Fortress<\/b> rises above the banks of the Danube, near the town of Golubac, as one of the best-preserved testimonies to the Serbian Middle Ages. The fortress was built in the 14th century as a coastal lookout and the first line of defense against numerous invaders. Studenica Monastery<\/b> is one of the most valuable monuments of Serbian medieval culture and a pearl of Serbian spirituality. The complex was built in the 3rd century, and to this day represents the best preserved ancient settlement in Serbia. Oplenac<\/b> is a first-rate monument of Serbian history, located in Topola, in central Serbia. The mausoleum of the Karadjordjevic dynasty was built on the site where members of the royal family were buried. The estate also houses the church of St. George, known for its priceless interior.<\/p>\n
